Creek Chub probably has the most unique color patterns ever offered on old lures. A
fisherman could order his favorite lure in just about any color pattern, if he or she
decided to order a dozen. Creek Chub would make the order and stamp the boxes
"SPECIAL" with either a similar cataloged code,
or 00 for a completely different color.
Some of these special order colors were more
abundant than others, because a guide may have ordered several for his guided-trips. What
a company! Can you imagine telling a lure manufacturer, "I want a dozen Pikies in
Redwing Blackbird with silver scales." I have shown most special order colors that
were never cataloged for another lure. There are several cataloged
colors, which would be considered special order for certain lures. For more information
regarding what colors were available on a particular lure, buy Harold Smith's book.
I also added some unique plastic colors down at
the bottom of this page. I am not sure when they were produced, but they are becoming
collectible.
